Ten Arrested In Police Crackdown On Protesting Doctors At HMC In Peshawar


PESHAWAR, 13 June: Police on Tuesday launched crackdown against representatives of Young Doctors Association (YDA) and arrested ten doctors at Hayatabad Medical Complex in Peshawar.
As per details, police resorted to baton charge on young doctors, who were protesting at HMC, when they tried to get out-patient department (OPD) and different wards of the hospital closed forcefully.
During the protest, the police also arrested ten doctors, including YDA President Dr Gulab Noor Afridi for violating section 144, which has been imposed since previous few months.
The YDA alleged that four doctors were injured in the police baton charge. They said that they would continue their protest to endorse their demands.
Advisor to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Amir Muqam visited protesters doctors to express solidarity with them. He asked police to resolve the issue through talks.
The YDA were protesting against Medical Teaching Institutes (MTI) Act, non-payment of allowances, and demanding professional health allowance and service structure.
