PM, Army Chief hold one-on-one meeting, discuses national, regional issues


ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Tuesday held a tete-e-tete meeting and discussed key issues including regional security.
Chief of Army Staff visited Nawaz Sharif at Prime Minsiter House and discussed issues related to internal and regional security, said a statement.
Both leaders agreed to continue implementing the policies devised about national security and regional peace, read statement.
The one-on-one dialogue was followed by a top level meeting chaired by Nawaz Sharif. General Raheel Sharif, DR ISI Lt-General Rizwar Akhter, Interior Minister Chuadhry Nisar Ali Khan, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif and PM’s Special Adviser on National Security Lt-Gen (retd.) Nasir Janjua were also present in the meeting.
During the meeting Janjua briefed the national leadership about his recent meeting with Indian counterpart Ajit Doval in Bangkok.
Matters related to stalled peace dialogue in Afghanistan Prime Minister’s meeting with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani in Paris also came under discussion.
It is pertinent to be mentioned here that Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and Afghan President Ashraf Ghani are due to arrive in Islamabad to attend the 6th ministerial meeting of Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process which began earlier this day.
The two leaders will also hold meetings with top Pakistani leadership during the tours.
