ISLAMABAD: The Joint Investigation Team (JIT), probing the assets of the Prime Minister’s family disclosed in Panama Papers, has issued summons to Nawaz Sharif to appear before the team on June 15.
The PM House, in a statement issued to media, confirmed having received summons from the JIT and said the prime minister has decided to honour the summons and appear before it on Thursday.
The Nawaz Sharif has been asked to come to the Federal Judicial Academy – temporary headquarters of the JIT – at 11:30 am on Thursday, along with relative documents, the letter read.
The six member JIT comprising financial experts and representatives of intelligence agencies had recently grilled Prime Minister’s two sons Hussain Nawaz and Hassan Nawaz for hours.
JIT has been given two months by the Supreme Court to finish the probe.
The apex court had taken up the Panama Papers case last year and in its judgment held that an investigation team should probe the money trail after the premier’s family failed to produce a clear money trail to establish amassing of assets abroad.
