Pak-Afghan Border In Kurram Opened For Trade Activities

SADDA, 19 June: After the announcement of the Foreign Office, the Pak-Afghan border in Kurram Agency has been opened for trade activities.

Trade union leader Masoib Hussain said it’s like Eid before Eid for traders with the opening of the border.

“Eid is expected on 26 June, but we are celebrating it right now with the opening of the border. We are very thankful to the government for opening the border,” he told TNN.

Tribal elders Syed Amin Hussain and Syed Nazir Hussain said while talking to TNN that people of the area and traders were facing many difficulties due to closure of the border. They said the opening of the border will end their difficulties. They also thanked the government for opening the border.

“Our businesses suffered a lot due to closure of the border for the last four months. Now we are thankful to Almighty Allah that our difficulties will finally come to an end. The border opening will create job opportunities for the local people,” they said.

A large number of Pakistani and Afghan tribal elders were present on the occasion of opening of the border. Afghan citizens said while talking to TNN that they are happy over resumption of trade activities. However, they said the border should also be opened for other travellers on both sides.

The Pak-Afghan border in Kurram Agency was closed on 16 February after terrorist attacks in different parts of the country.
