Media under attack: Another journalist shot dead in Kohat


KOHAT: Unknown armed men on Sunday gunned down a senior journalist and cable operator in Kohat, said police officials.
The 42-year-old Hafiz-ur-Rehman, chief editor of his own daily newspaper daily, ‘Asia’ and employee of Neo TV network was on the way when unknown attackers riding a motorcycle opened fire on him in Bandha Chowk of Kalu Khan area in district Kohat.
As a result of firing Hafiz-ur-Rehman died on the spot while the assailants manage to flee from the scene of the crime.
“He was hit by three bullets and died on the spot,” Fazal Naeem, a police spokesman in Kohat,
Hafiz-ur-Rehman was also owner of a local cable network in the name of New Star.
“We are investigating murder of Hafeezur Rahman from all angles, including enmity, suspected target killing,” DPO Kohat
The journalist bodies have strongly condemned the murder and demanded of the authorities to bring the culprits to book. They warned if action was not taken against the murderers they would be forced to take to streets and police will be responsible for any disturbance in law and order situation.
Earlier this month, a journalist was killed by Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan for not publishing their news in restive Tank district.
