LB polls phase-II: ECP notifies military deployment in Sindh, Punjab


ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) today notified the deployment of military for the second phase of local body (LB) elections in Sindh and Punjab.
According to ECP notification, 16 companies of army will be deployed in 13 districts of Sindh from November 18. In Sanghar, military is not being deployed due to the postponement of polls.
Two companies of the Pakistan Army, which were to take charge of duties in Sanghar, will now be deployed in Badin.
The notification further read that two companies will be located in Hyderabad and Thatta each, while one company each will be deployed in Mirpur Khas, Umer Kot and Mitthi.
In Punjab, 40 Pakistan Army companies will be positioned to maintain law and order during the LB elections, while police and local administrations will also be assisting peaceful conduct of polls.
Military troops will take charge of their duties in Hafizabad from today.
