Journalists demand early recovery of colleagues

PESHAWAR: The representatives of Peshawar Press Club and Khyber Union of Journalists on Monday strongly condemned kidnapping of their senior colleagues, who were abducted by the unknown armed men last day.

As per details, the journalists held a protest meeting at Peshawar Press Club which was attended by a large number of journalists from Peshawar and tribal areas.
The journalists expressed deep concerns over disappearance of senior journalists and asked the federal and provincial governments and security forces to safely recover their abducted colleagues.

Shah Nawaz Tarazkai, working with Free Europe (Mashal Radio) as radio reporter, was picked by reportedly secret agencies men from media cell at Shabqadar, Charsadda. Another journalist, Islam Gul, hailing from Bara Tehsil of Khyber Agency, got missing when he was on the way back to Peshawar from Islamabad. According to his close colleagues, he had received a call from unknown number on Oct 14 requesting meeting. “I will return to Peshawar on Sunday and will meet you on Monday at my office,” one of his close friend quoted him as saying.

Mr. Gul is associated with Radio Pakistan as a programme producer and working as reporter with SBS pashto service. He was also contributing for Akhbar-e-Khyber and Waziristan Times.

According to family sources, his phone went off and no contact could be established with him even after 30 hours.

Media unions and Journalists have decided to take up the issue with the relevant authorities and demanded early recovery of the journalists.
