Electioneering ends for 3rd phase of LG polls


KARACHI: Electioneering for the third phase of Local Government elections has come to an end tonight.
Polling will take place in the third phase of LG elections in Sindh and Punjab on December 5, according to Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Candidates contesting for the seats of Chairman, Vice Chairman and Councillor made last ditch efforts and held door to door canvassing, corner meetings and rallies to garner the public support.
A great enthusiasm was witnessed in the concerned constituencies as polling will be held in twelve districts of Punjab in the final phase of LG polls.
In Punjab, the voting will be held in Layyah, Rajanpur, DG Khan, Muzaffargarh, Jhang, Khushab, Rawalpindi, Sialkot, Narowal, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur and Multan.
Similarly, in Sindh, polling will be held in Karachi West, Karachi East, Karachi South, Karachi Central, Korangi and Malir.
Last day of electioneering remained full of excitement as the candidates continued convincing voters in Karachi and 12 districts of Punjab .
All major political parties, including MQM, PTI, JI and PPP, have held elections rallies to woo their supporters in Karachi where election campaign reached its climax today.
There are nearly 5,000 candidates in the fray for municipal seats, with more than 7 million registered voters.
The number of polling stations in Karachi is 4,144, out of them, 1,800 have been declared as highly sensitive.
Meantime, as many as 14,470 polling stations have been set up in 12 districts of Punjab.
Punjab’s last phase of LG polls will witness 31,848 candidates vying for the municipal seats. There are 170 women among the LG candidates.
