Citizen Card Scheme Launched For Illegal Afghan Refugees


PESHAWAR, 18 July: The federal government has decided to initiate Afghan Citizen Card scheme for Afghan refugees illegally residing in Pakistan.

According to a statement of the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON), the purpose of the initiative is to bring the stay of all Afghan refugees in Pakistan under legal ambit. The statement said 21 centres will be established for making citizen cards for Afghan nationals in different parts of the country. He said first two centres will start operation in Islamabad and Peshawar from 20 July. The statement said the Afghan citizen possessing proof of registration cards don’t require this card. It said all illegal Afghan nationals can get citizen card free of cost.

The statement said the Afghan citizens possessing the citizen cards will be able to get travel documents from the Afghan government. The Afghan nationals can show any document to prove their identity for getting citizen card. Centres for citizen cards have been set up at Sector I-11-3 in Islamabad and Jamaluddin Afghani Road in Peshawar.
