PESHAWAR, 14 June: The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will hold its meeting in Peshawar for moon sighting for Eidul Fitr.
Decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Senate standing committee headed by Senator Hamdullah which also discussed arrangements for Hajj. The meeting was told that the moon-sighting meeting will be held in Peshawar and a representative of Mufti Shahabuddin Populzai will also be invited to the meeting.
The committee rejected the proposal of observing Ramazan and Eid with Saudi Arabia, arguing that it will create problems.
Differences often surfaces between the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee and local private committee of Peshawar headed by Mufti Shahabuddin Populzai over moon-sighting issue and people following both the committees observe fast and Eid on different days. This year too, the followers of Mufti Populzai observed first Ramazan one day ahead of the rest of the country. The moon-sighting meeting has been called in Peshawar this year in a bid to observe Eid in the whole country on the same day.
