Buner Administration Imposes Ban On Swimming In Stifa Canal

BUNER, 13 June: The Buner district administration has imposed ban on swimming without safety measures in Stifa Canal in Khudokhel tehsil in order to avoid any drowning incident.
Due to the scorching heat and prolonged power outages, many locals come to bathe and swim in rivers and canals, especially in Ramazan.
Deputy Commissioner in a notification stated that the ban was imposed on the request of executive engineer, Swabi district irrigation department. The notification read that several incidents of drowning had took place and a number of people have lost their lives after being swept away by the strong water at Stifa Canal. Few days earlier, a resident of Swabi was also drowned in the swept water.
The notification further stated that restrictions were placed for public safety to avoid further loss of life in the area. Those who swim in the canal without wearing swimming jacket as safety measure would be jailed.
The administration said that two months ban was also imposed on swimming without wearing safety jacket in other canals of the district.
