ATC sends Dr Asim on four-day judicial remand


KARACHI: Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) on Thursday has given Dr Asim Hussain in Sindh Police custody on four-day physical remand after he was booked on terror charges.
Dr Asim Hussain was produced before ATC amidst tight security arrangement.
The court handed over Asim to police to interrogate him in a case alleged terror financing.
A case was registered against him in North Nazimabad Police Station under Anti-Terrorism Act after 90-day remand in Rangers custody expired this month.
The judge, after hearing arguments of the prosecutor general and Dr. Asim’s counsel, granted his physical remand to police, ordering his production in next hearing on Monday.
Dr. Asim, a close aide of former President Asif Ali Zardari, has been charged with corruption and terror financing, according to an FIR filed at North Nazimabad police station.
After the expiration of his 90-day remand in Rangers custody, Dr. Asim Hussain, a former federal minister and the Chairman of the provincial Higher Education Commission (HEC), was shifted to Gulberg police station moments after midnight under heightened guard.
The FIR also includes the names of MQM leaders including Anis Qaimkhani, Wasim Akhter, Rauf Siddiqui and Saleem Shahzad.
