Army Chief Gen Bajwa arrives Parachinar as protest enters eighth day

PARACHINAR: Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Friday visited Parachinar to meet with the families of the victims of the twin blasts that left more than 70 people dead a day before the Eidul Fitar.
According to a statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Chief of Army Staff was briefed and given an update about the security situation in the violence-torn city where more than 200 others were also injured in the twin blasts.
According to the statement, the army chief is also expected to meet with tribal elders later in the day.
Members of the Shia community in Parachinar, the capital of Kurram Agency ─ a mainly Shia area in the tribal belt, protested against government inaction following the bombings and demanded a visit from the Gen Bajwa and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar.
Holding placards bearing #ParachinarAao, the victims urged the political bigwigs including prime minister Nawaz Sharif, PTI chairman Imran Khan to visit the place in person. They also demanded the government to order a fair probe into the militancy recently unleashed in the city.
