PESHAWAR: A two-day training workshop for transgender, civil organization, media representatives and other relevant stakeholders was held here at a local hotel to learn how to make their workplaces more dignified and effectively handle cases of sexual harassment.
The two-day long training workshop titled ‘Eliminating Sexual Harassment through Empowering Transgender in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’ was organized by the Da Hawwa Lur with the support of USAID KP Governance Project. The representatives of the health, police and education department and representatives from KP right to Information and KP Right to Services Commission were also attended the training workshop and explained the procedures and ways to use existing laws while handling cases of sexual harassment cases.
The training covered aspects such as the fundamental human rights in the constitution of Pakistan, anti-sexual harassment legislation 2010, KP Right to Information Act and KP Right to Services Act and other steps taken by Government of Pakistan for the development of transgender.
At the conclusion session, recommendation were taken from transgender about the developmental plans they need the most for their community.
The PPP female lawmaker Ms.Nighat Orakzai and PML-N Ms.Amna Sardar(PML-N) were the chief guests at the closing ceremony in which they distributed certificates among the participants.
Nighat Orakzai and Amna Sardar assured to bring pro-transgender legislations into the parliament and developmental plans for transgender.
Before concluding the training program, Director Programs Da Hawwa Lur organization, Ms.Shawana Shah, said. Da Hawwa Lur is thankful to USAID Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governance Project and American people for the generous support to ensure the development and equal rights of transgender in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Da Hawwa Lur is constantly striving to build the capacity and improve skills of the Transgender by conducting such trainings.
