Opposition stages walk out from KP Assembly, expresses solidarity with teachers


PESHAWAR: The opposition in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Tuesday stage walked out from Assembly session in protest against provincial Government’s proposed act of privatization of public colleges and expressed solidarity with teachers.
MPA Munawar Khan of JUIF, on his point of order raised the issue and stated that thousands of college teachers have arranged a protest demonstration in front of the Assembly building against PTI led coalition government’s policy in education sector.
He said that on one side the KP government was claiming to make education for all in the province but on the other the teachers were staging protests.
Speaking on the occasion, Parliamentary leader of PMLN, Sardar Aurengzeb Nalota said that the provincial government had vowed to enforce educational emergency in the province but they were introducing an ‘Act’ against their own policy and termed the proposed act as “black law for teachers”.
He emphasized upon the provincial government to take all stakeholders on board to resolve the issue and remove misunderstandings.
Parliamentary leader of ANP, Sardar Hussian Babak said the KP government believes in solo flight in each and every matter and always draft such laws which were acceptable to people adding the government converted public hospitals into Medical Teaching Institute (MTI) despite great resistance and still failed to control dengue in Peshawar which had claimed lives of different people.
He claimed that substandard medicines were being provided at public hospitals and whenever any provincial government or federation try to help the KP Government refuses on political grounds.
He said KP government had prepared a bill without securing the interests of teachers. He proposed constitution of a committee to resolve the issue of teachers.
Nighat Ourakzai of PPP while slammed PTI led KP government and said it did not want progress in the province therefore making law against wishes of masses.
Raja Faisal Zaman of PMLN pointed out absence of members of treasury benches from the House and deplored that the concerned minister was not even present to satisfy the opposition and the protesters outside assembly.
Anisa Zeb Tahirkheli of QWP criticized the government over its’ policies and announced to stage walkout from the assembly to express solidarity with teaches over the issue. The other opposition members also staged walkout following Anisa Zeb.
Meanwhile, Advisor to Chief Minister for Environment Fazle Elahi said that he had tried to arrange a meeting with the protesting teachers but came to know that the teachers were protesting on behest of the opposition.
Later, Deputy Speaker Mehr Taj Roghani presiding over the session asked Minister for Law Imtiaz Shahid Qureshi, Minister for Excise and Taxation Mian Jamsheduddin and MPA Shaukat Ali Yousafzai to bring the protesting members in the House.
Meanwhile, PPP legislator Nighat Aurakzai came to House and pointed quorum. The Deputy Speaker fond lack of quorum and adjourned the session to meet again on Wednesday 1400 hours.
