Missing tribal journalists reached home after enforced disappearance

PESHAWAR: Two tribal journalists, Shah Nawaz Tarakzai and Islam Gul Afridi, who were taken away a day earlier, were released and reached home safely.

The family sources of the both journalists said that they were reached safely to home after more than 30 hours abduction.

As per details, Shah Nawaz Tarazkai, working with Free Europe (Mashal Radio) as radio reporter, was picked up from media cell at Shabqadar, Charsadda by reportedly officials of the secret agency.

Mr. Tarakzai works for Mashal Radio, a Pashto channel of Radio Free, and is assigned to cover Mohmand and Bajaur agencies of tribal areas.

Islam Gul on Oct 14 informed me that he received a call from unknown number requesting meeting, said his close friend.

Islam Gul, hailing from Bara Tehsil of Khyber Agency, also got missing on the same day when he was on the way back to Peshawar from Islamabad. According to his close colleagues, he had received a call from unknown number on Oct 14 requesting meeting. “I will return to Peshawar on Sunday and will meet you on Monday at my office,” one of his close friend quoted him as saying.

When contacted, he confirmed that he reached his home safely after his abduction and refused to talk on the his disappearance.

The third journalist who went missing today from Swat is yet to be recover.

Earlier today, the representatives of Peshawar Press Club and Khyber Union of Journalists held an emergency meeting and strongly condemned enforced disappearance.

After their recovery, Media unions and Journalists have expressed gratification over the safe release of their colleagues and asked the provincial and federal governments to conduct probe in their enforced disappearance.
