LANDIKOTAL: The Government Degree College Landi Kotal on Saturday launched four-year BS programme in Chemistry and Urdu.
The programme was launched during a ceremony held at the college which was attended by the officials of Director Education Fata Hashim Khan Afridi, Senator Taj Muhammad and officials of the Education Department.
“The four-year BS programme was launched in 18 out of 35 degree colleges of FATA. In near future it would be extended to other educational institutions across the tribal belt,” Afridi
Addressing the gathering, Hashim Khan Afridi said that the newly BS system was introduced with intention to make recognize the Pakistani degree internationally as in prevailed old system it was considered conventional and the degree holder was not acknowledged post- graduate. Mr. Afridi said that four-year BS programme was launched in 18 out of 35 degree colleges of FATA. “In near future it would be extended to other educational institutions across the tribal belt,” he told participants.
He said that four more courses would be launched at the degree college as he has written to Higher Education Commission and informed that girls would also be enrolled in the programme.
Senator Taj Muhammad Afridi declared introduction of BS system a good omen however he conditioned flourishing of the new system with availability of all basic needs, require for smooth function of the system.
He said that BS system should not be limited to two subjects and asked for introduction of more subjects under BS system.
He assured the students that scarcity of potable water and electricity, the long lasting demands of the college would be solved in coming month.
Earlier, the college Principal Dr. Aslam Taseer appraised the visiting guests of the problems being faced by the institution.
It is to be remained here that BS education system has been begun in England in 1860.
