Army Cheif Raheel Sharif meets CIA Director Brennan


WASHINGTON: Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif, who is in the United States for his five-day trip, called on Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Director John Brennan at Langley, Virginia.
The meeting was held at CIA headquarters at Langely where they discussed regional security challenges and way forward, said Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
ISPR said General Raheel Sharif specially highlighted need for permanent stability, and requirement of conducive environment in region for re-initiating Afghan reconciliation process.
Director CIA acknowledged accomplishments of operation Zarb-e-Azb, its positive impact on security calculus, ISPR said in a statement.
CIA Director appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for reconciliation and discussed opportunities presented for future of an enduring regional peace, according to ISPR.
A State Department official confirmed that the COAS would meet Secretary of State John Kerry at the State Department later this week. Mr Kerry returns to Washington on Tuesday from a week-long visit to Turkey and Europe.
