ANP chief raises issue of ignoring western route of CPEC in a meeting with PM Nawaz

Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif talking to ANP leader Mr. Asfandyar Wali at the PM House, Islamabad on March 10, 2015.

ISLAMABAD: Awami National Party (ANP) Chief Asfandyar Wali called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at prime minister house in Islamabad today and discussed China-Pakistan Economic Corridor CPEC.
According to sources, Asfandyar expressed concerns over ignoring western route, passing through small provinces-Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, and asked prime minister to give priorities to it.
The western route, which is shortest route will benefit the small provinces, the sources quoted ANP chief saying to Nawaz Sharif. The federal government is giving less priority to western route of CPEC, said Asfandyar Wali.
The ANP chief will hold a press conference later today regarding the meeting, said sources.
Earlier, Asfandyar had refused to attend government briefing on CPEC until his party reservation over western route redressed.
The recent allocations, announcements and inaugurations under the project showed that the eastern route of the CPEC continued to be the federal government’s priority while western route had no worth in the eyes of the ruling PML-N, Asfandyar Khan had alleged during a public gathering recently heldin Charsadda.
