Accusing Asif Ali Zardari in BB murder; Pervez Musharaf’s another move for survival

Former military dictator Gen. (Retd) Pervez Musharaf who had put on top of list of those rulers, not only responsible for plunging the country into reversible crises but also multiplying the matters both at national and international level by making false claims and reversing from commitments made at different forums from time to time. At once, he was considering most “essential” for present and future of the country but after quitting the powerful offices, he was not only forced to resign from President office but even was unable to stay, by making routes to abroad. During this period, he had established his own All Pakistan Muslim League but was unable to get membership of only 500 in the populace of 220 million.
Not only while governing the country as a strong man but even after losing power, Musharaf has always made attempts of proving debate and discussion opportunities on certain issues, especial war on terror, relations with US and Afghanistan, hostilities with India and even on internal political matters, by making some astonishing points. But no one can deny that through such acts and steps, Pervez Musharaf has badly affected his own credibility. Beside US led allied countries war on terror, Pervez Musharaf has always made conflicting statements on the brutal assassination of leading politicians, especially Shaheed Prime Minister Mohtarama Benazir Bhutto.
Couple of days, Rawalpindi’s Anti Terrorist Court has made decision into assassination of former Prime Minister Mohatarama Benazir Bhutto, ordering honourable acquittal of four arrested terrorists and awarding different terms imprisonment to two senior police officers. But Pakistan People’s Party high command rejecting the court decisions, not only challenged it before superior courts but even they demanding direct trailing of former military ruler Pervez Musharaf in BB murder case as he was governing the country at that time.
In reaction, Pervez Musharaf had made public a 12-minutes video statement through social media, alleging involvement of former President Asif Ali Zardari in assassination of his spouse Mohatrama Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. And ex-military dictator in his video message says, “breaking the silence after PPP leader Asef Ali Zardari blamed him for the first time directly for Benazir Bhutto’s murder.” Interestingly, Pervez Musharaf who ahead with bad days after exchanging of harsh words with former Afghan President in presence of former US President George W Bush in Washington and Turkey President in Ankara somewhere in 2007, saying, “senior Afghan officials, including former president Hamid Karzai, might have been involved in this conspiracy since “Asif Ali Zardari had very good relations with Karzai.”
Further advocating in favour of his point of view, Musharaf said that the then chief of banned Tehrik Taliban Pakistan Bait Ullah Mehsud was his enemy and alleges influencing of Bait Ullah Mehsud by Asif Ali Zardari through Hamid Karzai. And at the same time, he didn’t disclose the name but said. “there was another senior official who could have used his influence over Mehsud (Bait Ullah). He said that Asif Ali Zardari benefitted too much with assassination of Benazir Bhutto and asked her children Bilawal, Bakhtawar and Asefi to think about his disclosures. Even Musharaf has also charged Asif Ali Zardari for what he called in killing of Meer Murtaza Bhutto. And the ex-military dictator, who himself has already been declared as pro-claimed offender by a number of courts, has demanded “immediate arrest” of Asif Ali Zardari” in Benazir Bhutto murder case.
Though PPP leaders including leader of opposition in National Assembly Mr. Khurshid have not only contradicted Pervez Musharaf’s statement but even they termed it a foolish act just for his hiding his (Mush) own involvement. PPP says that Gen. Musharaf’s statement proves that he was directly responsible for the assassination of the former PPP chairperson in a gun-and-bomb attack outside Rawalpindi’s Liaqat Bagh on December 27, 2007.
Pervez Musharaf has made public his mind on the issue of most high profile violent act in the national history on the day when the United Kingdom Prime Minister Theresa May in her address before UN General Assembly recalled her class fellow Mohatarama Benazir Bhutto in nice words. She recalled that Ms Bhutto, who was killed in a terrorist attack in December 2007, stood against terrorism “in a country that has suffered more than most at the hands of terrorists.” The popular Pakistani, British PM added, was “murdered for standing up for democracy, murdered for espousing tolerance and murdered for being a woman.”
No doubt to mention that Pervez Musharaf remain in power till August 2008 but his bad days started when a number of US led allies and global forums became doubtful of his acts and actions regarding war on terror. No one can neglect the fact that Pervez Musharaf had inherited the extremism and terrorism phenomenon from his military predecessors like Zia Ul Haq and Mirza Aslam Beg but he personally had proved him most “fan of the then rulers of Afghanistan-Taliban.” Couple of days before of 9/11 tragedy, Gen. Mush was quoted by a number of newspapers as saying “Pushtoons are in Majority in Afghanistan and they are represented by Taliban, therefore, Taliban having the right to govern Afghanistan.” And banned TTP is in fact got birth from Tehrik Taliban Afghanistan and right from Nek Mohammad till Bait Ullah and Hakim Ullah Mehsud and even till Mullah Fazal Ullal, all of them have recognised Mullah Muhammad Umar as Amir Ul Momineen. And both TTA and TTP are not only fighting against lawful regimes in Islamabad and Kabul but even trying for what they called restoration of centuries old Khurasan with Islamic Sharia as way of life. On such grounds, no one Pervez Musharaf’s claim regarding joint plan by Taliban, Asif Ali Zardari and ex-Afghan President Hamid Karzai regarding assassination of Benazir Bhutto is nothing else a joke.
Shaheed Mohatara Benazir Bhutto was not the first or lost, mysteriously murdered in Pakistan. Since the days of first Prime Minister Liaqat Ali Khan, a large number of leading politicians have been met with same goals. The list is too long. Apart from politicians and sitting ministers, thousands of people including tribal chieftains, parliamentarians, civil, military and police officers, journalists, socio-politico workers, and even students have also been brutally killed on the name of terror. Despite hectic efforts on the part of government through civil and military forces with visible support of populace and international community, almost of leading terrorist commanders either succeeded in escape or chased by the US drones. But so far the rulers had failed in conducting of proper inquiries into these immoral, inhuman and heinous criminal acts.
Since holding of first ever Presidential elections in Afghanistan (October 2004), the international community has lost trust in claims and commitments, made from time to time by former Military dictator Gen, Musharaf regarding war on terror. At that time, first ever drone has not targeted the then militant commander Nek Mohammad in his native village Kalo Shah near to Wana in South Waziristan but had confirmed emerging and regrouping of Taliban militants in tribal regions of Pakistan, considering it a blow to fragile peace in war-devastated Afghanistan. The International Community, which has made valuable contribution in return of peace and reconstruction of war affected Afghanistan was reluctant to loss these achievements. International community was unanimous in favour of changes in Pakistan leadership.
Sir Mark Lyall Grant, a famous career diplomat who remain British permanent representative to UN General Assembly (2009-2015) and also chaired the UN Security Council for four times, was serving as British High Commissioner to Pakistan during 2004-2005. He was too much familiar amongst journalistic community in Islamabad. During this period, he was quoted as saying that west disappointed and now it is in favour of returning of Benazir Bhutto not only to Pakistan but also to rule the country for getting the goals of “ending extremism and terrorism in the region.” And the West with changes in its ideas has made confusing no other then former military dictator Pervez Musharaf who had proved most ambitious. Distance between Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif who remains each other’s arch rival reduced through one or the other ways and as a result they signed Charter of Democracy. And despite opposition of Pervez Musharaf both of them returned and as result of their joint pressure, Musharaf first forced to quit the military office and later on announced election schedule for January 2008. But Benazir Bhutto upon return was survived in Karsaz terror act and similarly the plot planned at Peshawar on 25th of December was foiled by the law enforcing agencies.
After coming into power, Pervez Musharaf had made him as pioneer of enlighten moderation and had announced wide range reforms. Fate of such reforms is now before of each and every one. But for the police reforms, he assigned the task to a police officer namely Shuaib Suddle, who was charged for killing or ordering the cops for opening fire against Meer Murtaza Bhutto. Instead of assigning the task of police reforms, Musharaf was in a best position of trailing Shuaib Suddle and can easily make Shuaib Suddle as “approver” against Asif Ali Zardari in Meer Murtaza Bhutto case.
Before of 2008 general election, Pervez Musharaf made too much plots for making it controversial. Beside other’s through one or other ways Pakistan Tehrik Insaaf, Jamaat Islami and Pakhtunkhwa Mili Awami Party entered into an alliance and boycotted election process. Through Qazi Hussain Ahmad and Mehmood Khan Achakzai, too many efforts made to keep away Nawaz Sharif and his PML (N) of election process. But it was Benazir Bhutto who had convinced Nawaz Sharif of participating the process. Nawaz Sharif through his aides remains active for foiling of the democratic process till last. Even almost of political parties made disappointed with brutal assassination of Benazir Bhutto but it was Asif Ali Zardari and his aides who remain firm on the decision inherited by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto. And polls results had forced Musharaf to quit and leave the country.
Now post Nawaz Sharif scenario generating too much changes at regional and global politics. Pervez Musharaf has lost the credibility and utility not only inside the country but even he is no more required to Al Saud (Saudi Arab) led recently established alliance of Sunni Muslim countries. The PANAMA battle also confirmed involvement and contribution of some retired military men who are active from their offices and compounds in United Arab Emirates. And such people are in close links with the Arab world policy makers. In developing scenario, PPP is again becoming an attractive force for the civilized world, which was made fed up by growing trends of extremism and terrorism. Like of 2007, Musharaf is again making another move to damage image of PPP and its high command. A particular mind set has already made too much investment on character assassination of Asif Ali Zardari and his party leading figures. And Musharaf is already enjoying friendship with some of groups and individuals who enjoyed unprecedented perks and powers during his regime. Through such loyalists, Musharaf expecting mustering support but now it seem impossible. Neither he can regain in national politics nor could he get back perks and powers in Pakistan. Instead of earning more and more hater through such type of illogical statements and so-called disclosures, Pervez Musharaf needs to stay abroad like of deposed rulers like Sikandar Mirza, Raza Shah of Iran and several others.
